Spending Time Together

I love my classes.  I love the people.  I love the environment.  I love the whole thing.  We spend so much time together and over the years we really get to know each other.  It doesn’t happen in a day or a week.  But over time the layers unfold and before we even recognize it, these people have become a part of our stories and apart of us.  But it is inside the studio that we build these relationships.

It was time to leave the studio, even for just one night.  Leave behind the sweaty glow and the pit stained T shirts, the inappropriate music and kettlebells, the mill smell and the clock.  It was time to venture to a whole different territory.  A territory that some might think pairs well with a post workout rush.  We headed a few miles down the road to Admiralty Distillers.  I knew very little about distilleries and even though I will pretend to know quite a bit for the next few months, I really only understood a small portion.

Jake, the owner, welcomed us and answered ALL of our questions.  As a side note, during class people ask a lot of questions.  I always answer them as best as I can, but sometimes (most of the time) I can’t help but wonder if this is a way to use up a few extra minutes that I may have saved to do what we like to call a “finisher.”  When people were asking questions about ingredients and equipment, I couldn’t help but think “maybe I just have a very curious group of students.”  I might not remember that next time I am teaching but at least I thought of it that one night.  Questions, tastings and snacks, we all learned quite a bit and some of us even went home with a bottle or two.

At the end of the night, I thought how lucky I am to have such an amazing group of people I get to spend my days with.  We laugh, we cry, we hug and all the while we really know how to have fun.  We even make working out a highlight of our day…sometimes.
